Product Description Outrageous, raw, and painfully funny true stories straight from the life of the actor, comedian, and much-loved cast member of The Howard Stern Show-with a foreword by Howard Stern.
When Artie Lange joined the permanent cast of The Howard Stern Show in 2001, it was possibly the greatest thing ever to happen in the Stern universe, second only to the show's move to the wild, uncensored frontier of satellite radio. Lange provided what Stern had yet to find all in the same place: a wit quick enough to keep pace with his own, a pathetic self-image to dwarf his own, a personal history both heartbreaking and hilarious, and an ingrained sense of self-sabotage that continually keeps things interesting.
A natural storyteller with a bottomless pit of material, Lange grew up in a close-knit, working-class Italian family in Union, New Jersey, a maniacal Yankees fan who pursued the two things his father said he was cut out for-sports and comedy. Tragically, Artie Lange Sr. never saw the truth in that prediction: He became a quadriplegic in an accident when Artie was eighteen and died soon after. But as with every trial in his life, from his drug addiction to his obesity to his fights with his mother, Artie mines the humor, pathos, and humanity in these events and turns them into comedy classics.
True fans of the Stern Show will find Artie gold in these pages: hilarious tales that couldn't have happened to anyone else. There are stories from his days driving a Jersey cab, working as a longshoreman in Port Newark, and navigating the dark circuit of stand-up comedy. There are outrageous episodes from the frenzied heights of his coked-up days at MADtv, surprisingly moving stories from his childhood, and an account of his recent U.S.O. tour that is equally stirring and irreverent. But also in this volume are stories Artie's never told before, including some that he deemed too revealing for radio.

Funny. September 2, 2010 Douglas Brown I found Artie Lange's book to be sobering while funny at the same time. In light of the terrible things that has happened with Artie, this book takes on a whole new light. I felt the writing was a tad poor but the stories were hysterical. Here's hoping for the best with Art.
Not your usual Bio. August 16, 2010 Miguel (Charlotte, New Caledonia) Ive never been a big fan of autobiography's by actors. They are always the same story (and so is this one) but I dont know, this is one great book. Ive been an Artie fan ever since I saw him on MadTV season 1. At the age of 12, I started listening to Howard Stern. I became an instant fan. The book goes through Artie's life between 1993-1998 when he really hit rock bottom with cocaine. It then skipped over to when he joined the Stern Show. Its a great book and its probably one of the only auto biographies that Ive actually enjoyed (besides George Carlin's book "On Words"). Its a great book which really surprised me. Check out the audio book as well, even though Artie only narrated the first hour of it.
artie's book is good July 29, 2010 Heywould (virginia) very honest, touching, sad, funny. if you are a fan of sterns show or just artie this book will entertain. wish he could get his life straight, seems to have good family and people that care. but who i am kidding lange is probably laying out on a dock at his shore house with a couple of hookers doing lines right know, counting all the money he has made off the book. good job artie
Love & Miss Artie!!! June 3, 2010 Teresa J. Harden As a long time Stern listener (20+ years) when Artie joined the show - it was like listening it to the first time again! Love his story telling, impressions, the guy just seemed unstoppable!! A little about me, mid 40's, business professional, woman, no addictions, no therapies, just average run of the mill yuppie I guess. I bought the book the day it was available, but finally got around to read it...
Yes, I laughed out loud - and reading it so late, some of the stories weren't as new as I had heard through radio show fodder.. No worries - no spoiler alert here - but it was very difficult to read (emotion) due to where Artie is today. Knowing the demons he wrote about - were/are obviously still there just broke my heart. If you're an Artie fan, and I mean, a fan who cares, not someone who would share coke or buy him Jack all night - then you'll feel the same way... You want Artie back.
I hope he has another book - overcoming those demons - and continue to tell the stories he does so well.
Hilarious! May 19, 2010 Francis Frost This book is really funny. At times you feel sorry for Artie, but can't help laughing at his stories and the situations he gets himself into.
